Gladiators Land WR Quorey Payne

CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Gladiators have been assigned veteran WR QUOREY PAYNE by the Arena Football League office, the team announced today. Payne returns to Northeast Ohio after a breakout season in 2008, while playing in Youngstown for the Mahoning Valley Thunder of the arenafootball2 league.

"We are excited to have an experienced receiver such as Quorey (pronounced Cory) on our roster," Gladiators Head Coach Steve Thonn said. "He has tremendous athletic ability and great instincts for our game. He will make an impact on our roster and we look forward to a successful year from him."

Payne, (5'10, 180, Southern Illinois) appeared in seven games in 2010 with the Spokane Shock as both wide receiver and kick returner. He led the Shock with 31 returns for 624 yards and two return touchdowns. In addition, he hauled in 20 passes for 207 yards and two touchdowns. In 2009, he led the Thunder with 31 total touchdowns. In his three years in the af2, Payne accumulated 4,571 all-purpose yards and 57 touchdowns.

Prior to playing professionally, Payne totaled 41 receptions for 714 yards and seven touchdowns in two seasons at Southern Illinois (2004 and '05).

The Gladiators 2011 season will kick off on the road against the defending ArenaBowl XXIII Champion Spokane Shock. The Gladiators home opener is set for SATURDAY, APRIL 2 versus the CHICAGO RUSH.
