Las Vegas Gladiators News Release
Las Vegas, NV- Las Vegas Gladiators have completed day 2 of training camp and things are looking very positive. Training camp began on Sunday February 4th, with some conditioning tests and a light helmets-only practice and on Monday morning the rigorous camp schedule began.
Players start off the day at 6am and it is a day filled with team and individual position meetings, weight training, two-2 hour full contact practices ending with bed-check at 11pm. Camp will continue through February 23rd, as the team must submit its 24-man regular season roster to the AFL League Office on Saturday, February 24.
"The first two days were very promising" said Head Coach Danton Barto "A lot of guys are really stepping up to the plate and we are looking good."
Throughout training camp Coach Barto is going to evaluate a player from offense and defense that he feels stood out that particular day in practice. Being a part of training camp players understand there are no guarantees and Coach Barto made it very clear in the initial meeting if you don't perform you are going home.
"I thought that John Nix had a great day" said Head Coach Barto. "I was impressed with his ability to push the pocket from the nose guard position. Offensively, I thought Tupe Peko had a very solid day. He showed today what a valuable player he is going to be on the offense line for us".
"With a lot of the players on the roster coming from the NFL, and getting a feel for the first time the tempo for the Arena game I am very impressed" mentioned Coach Barto. "All of the fundamentals of football that apply in the NFL carry over to the AFL; football is football when it comes down to it".
Training camp is open to the public and practices are held outside the Orleans Arena. The first practice begins at 9:30-11:30 and the second practice goes from 2:45-4:45pm.
