Fort Worth Cats News Release

FORT WORTH - - A solid pitching performance by Fort Worth starter James Giulietti powered the Cats to a 5-1 victory over San Angelo in the 2012 regular season finale. With the win, Fort Worth will have home field advantage in the first round, which gets underway Tuesday night.

The Cats began their scoring in the second inning with an RBI groundout by catcher Derek Marshall to score first baseman Jose Ruiz, who reached base on a fielding error.

The score would remain deadlocked at 1-0 until the sixth inning when the league leader in homers, Brandon Jones, hit a solo shot to left field for the much needed insurance run. The blast was the 18th of the season for the power infielder.

The momentum was carried over into the next frame for Fort Worth, as they added three more runs behind an RBI single by left fielder Chad Gabriel and a two-run hit for Jose Ruiz. Gabriel ends the season leading the league in batting average at .363, as well as second in hits with 125.

Cats starter James Giulietti was at his finest Monday night, pitching seven scoreless innings on five strikeouts and just one walk. The lefty earned his fourth win of the season as he will now come out of the bullpen during the postseason run.

Reliever Brandon Wilkerson finished out the game by throwing two innings. An unearned run put the Colts on the board after Colts left fielder Cory Patton made it to second base after outfielders Chad Gabriel and RJ Harris collided trying to make the first out of the eighth inning. That was all the scoring San Angelo could muster.

The postseason begins Tuesday night as the Cats will travel to San Angelo for game one at Foster Field. A best-of-three series determines who advances to the championship. Game two will begin at 7:05 at LaGrave Field on Wednesday night, followed by game three on Thursday if necessary. Tickets to all possible postseason games at LaGrave Field are available online at FWCats.com or by phone at (817) 332-CATS.
