Kalamazoo, MI - A North Division grudge match was decided midway in the final period with a goal from Eric Giosa (9th) lifting the Fort Wayne Komets (24-19-1-1) over the Kalamazoo Wings (19-20-4-1) Wednesday night at Wings Stadium.
Slipping past the Kalamazoo defense, Fort Wayne's Thomas Beauregard netted his team-leading 16th goal of the season. Beauregard's initial shot was turned aside by the reigning ECHL's Reebok Goaltender of the Week, Joel Martin; however, the rebound rolled back to the tape of the forward for the marker 9:11 into the period.
Beating the clock to tie the game at 1-1, Nick Sirota notched his 16th goal of the season by sweeping up a rebound with one-tenth of a second remaining in the period. Setting up the power-play strike were John Negrin and John Armstrong. The assist from Armstrong increased his point streak to four games.
After no scoring in the second period, Giosa earned the eventual game-winner on a secondary opportunity that sailed over the shoulder of Martin with 5:26 remaining in regulation.
