Gillis helps PrairieThunder stop Fort Wayne win streak at nine

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Ryan Gillis had his first two-goal game of the season to lead the Bloomington PrairieThunder to a 4-2 Western Conference victory over conference leader Fort Wayne in United Hockey League action before 3,866 people Saturday night at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.

Gillis' second goal of the game came with 6:32 remaining in the third period proved to be the game-winner as it snapped a 2-2 deadlock. He was assisted on the goal by Jarad Bourassa and Tyler Rennette.

Gillis' first goal 2:33 into the second period tied the game. He was assisted by Jon Booras and Mike Zbriger. Fort Wayne, which had won nine straight games, took a 1-0 lead five minutes into the first period on the first of two Daniel Goneau goals. His power play goal was assisted by Martin Gascon and A.J. Bozolan.

John Spoltore pulled the PrairieThunder even at 1-1 with a goal 16:16 into the first period. He was assisted by Trevor Baker and B.J. Gaustad. Goneau's second goal with 17 seconds remaining in the first period gave Fort Wayne a 2-1 advantage.

Trevor Baker scored an insurance goal for the PrairieThunder with 3:40 remaining in the game. He was assisted by Sam Miller and John Spoltore. Bloomington goalie Jeff Reynaert, who earned his 10th win of the season, saved 32 of 34 shots.

The victory moved Bloomington's record to 14-33-2, while Fort Wayne dropped to 32-14-2. The PrairieThunder returns to action Sunday with a Western Conference game against Quad City at the MARK in Moline at 3 p.m.
