Gibson's Finest CFL Players of the Week Named

TORONTO -- Brandon Rideau, Chip Cox, Sean Whyte and Jabari Arthur were named the Gibson's Finest CFL Players of the Week for the seventh week of the 2011 season.

The four players were chosen by a panel of judges including: former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan (@MattDuniganTSN ) and Duane Forde (@DuaneFordeTSN ), now of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

Toronto Argonauts wide receiver Brandon Rideau is the Gibson's Finest CFL Offensive Player of the Week. In Saturday night's Battle of Ontario at Ivor Wynne Stadium, Rideau caught six passes for 147 yards and two touchdowns. Rideau's first touchdown came in the first quarter on a 21-yard pass from Cleo Lemon and gave the Argos an early lead over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. His second touchdown and longest reception of his career, a 69-yarder, took the Argos back into the lead with 11:42 left in the fourth. Despite Rideau's offensive efforts, the Argos were unable to hang on, losing a hard fought game 37-32 to the Ticats.

Montreal Alouettes linebacker Chip Cox has been titled Gibson's Finest CFL Defensive Player of the Week. In the Als' 27-4 win over the Edmonton Eskimos, Cox led the Als' dominant defence, registering four tackles, two forced fumbles and his first two quarterback sacks of the season.

Montreal Alouettes kicker Sean Whyte has been named Gibson's Finest CFL Special Teams Player of the Week. In Thursday night's game against the Edmonton Eskimos at Percival Molson Stadium, Whyte connected on all four field goal attempts and two converts.

His final and longest field goal of the night, a 47-yarder, was his 19th consecutive field goal this season. Whyte is nine away from former Roughrider kicker David Ridgway's record of 28 consecutive made attempts set in 1993.

Whyte also registered seven punts for 323 yards with an average of 46.1 yards, four kickoffs for 257 yards with an average of 64.5 yards and a single point. Whyte's 15-point contribution helped take the Als to a 27-4 win over the Esks.

Jabari Arthur WR - Calgary Stampeders

Calgary Stampeders 45 @ Saskatchewan Roughriders 35

Calgary Stampeders wide receiver Jabari Arthur has been chosen as Gibson's Finest CFL Canadian Player of the Week. Arthur had his strongest game of his CFL career in the Stamps' 45-35 win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Friday night. The Montreal native had seven receptions for 92 yards and his first career CFL touchdown, a 23-yarder.
