Gibson's Finest CFL Players of the Week Named

Toronto, ON - (August 31, 2010) - Ken-Yon Rambo, James Patrick, Noel Prefontaine and Jon Cornish were named the Gibson's Finest CFL Players of the Week for week nine, the Canadian Football League announced today.

The four players were chosen by a panel of judges that includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde, now of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

WR - Ken-Yon Rambo - Calgary Stampeders

Calgary Stampeders 48 @ BC Lions 35

Highlights / Key Stats:

Calgary wide receiver Ken-Yon Rambo continued his impressive play since returning from injury, tallying nine receptions for 108 yards and two touchdowns in the Stamps 48-35 win over the BC Lions. Rambo has now scored four TDs in four games for the Stamps this season, who hold a league best 7-1 record. The receiver caught his two TDs from a pair of different quarterbacks. The first TD, a 20-yard pass from Henry Burris in the first half, and the second, a 19-yard diving grab courtesy of backup Drew Tate late in the fourth quarter.

Rambo is currently in his sixth CFL season, all as a member of the Stampeders.

S - James Patrick - Saskatchewan Roughriders

Saskatchewan Roughriders 14 @ Edmonton Eskimos 17

Highlights / Key Stats:

James Patrick did everything but add another notch in the win column for the Riders in week nine, who lost 17-14 in a tough battle to the Esks at Commonwealth Stadium. Patrick set a new career-high with three interceptions, tying a Saskatchewan team record and returning one interception for a touchdown. The Riders' safety scored the game's first points, intercepting Esks quarterback Ricky Ray and returning the ball 35 yards the other way for a touchdown. The third-year Rider added three tackles and also intercepted Eskimo backup QB Jared Zabransky twice, accumulating a total of 51 interception return yards in the game.

Patrick currently leads the CFL with six interceptions, having returned one for a touchdown through eight games.

Gibson's Finest CFL SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

K/P - Noel Prefontaine - Edmonton Eskimos

Saskatchewan Roughriders 14 @ Edmonton Eskimos 17

Highlights / Key Stats:

Edmonton kicker Noel Prefontaine scored 11 of the Eskimos 17 points in their come from behind victory over the visiting Roughriders. Prefontaine was a perfect three-for-three in field goals, connecting from 14, 52 and 37 yards respectively. Prefontaine connected on two of his field goals late in the fourth quarter. The Esks kicker tied the game at 14 with under four minutes to play, then booted the game-winning field goal with just 41 seconds remaining in regulation. Prefontaine also amassed 370 yards on eight punts for an average of 46.3 yards, notching a single point from 64 yards out. He also added one extra point convert.

This marks the second time Prefontaine has been named Gibson's Finest CFL Special Teams Player of the Week. Prefontaine was also a recipient of the award for his play in the Esks' first matchup against the Riders in week three.

RB - Jon Cornish - Calgary Stampeders

Highlights / Key Stats:

Running back Jon Cornish provided the finishing touches for the powerful Stamps offence as they defeated the Lions 48-35 at Empire Field this week. The New Westminster, BC native collected 70 yards on six rushing attempts and added 34 receiving yards on two receptions. The 104 yards from scrimmage were a career-high for the fourth-year Stampeder, who recorded 93 of those yards in the second half alone.

Cornish joins Noel Prefontaine as a two-time winner of Gibson's Finest CFL Players of the Week honours in 2010.
