Gibson Re-Signs for a Third Season with LouCity
December 8, 2022 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Louisville City FC News Release
Louisville City FC will return a veteran presence in its midfield with the re-signing of Tyler Gibson for the 2023 season, the club announced Thursday.
Terms of the deal, which is pending league and federation approval, were not disclosed.
"Tyler played a significant role in our success this year," said coach Danny Cruz. "His ability to read the game and his tactical understanding of how we want to play was key to being difficult to score against. He is a leader in our locker room and knows what it means to play for this club. We are looking forward to having him back and continuing to build this roster to push toward a USL Championship title."
Gibson will make this his third year in purple after arriving in 2021 from rival Indy Eleven. He has solidified a starting role since then, ranking among the club's leaders last season in passes (1,363) and accuracy in the opponent's half (89.5%) during LouCity's record-breaking 2022 campaign.
The boys in purple eclipsed 20 wins for the first time and accumulated a club-high 72 points during the regular season. Gibson was a staple in the holding midfield, starting 29 of his 32 appearances.
"I'm excited to be in Louisville again this coming season," Gibson said. "I look forward to getting back to work to bring that third star to this city."
From Knoxville, Tenn., the 31-year-old Gibson played collegiately at UNC Charlotte before a well-traveled professional career that saw him represent five clubs before establishing himself in Louisville. In addition to his job on the field with LouCity, Gibson is a licensed real estate agent who works at CORE Real Estate partners in the commercial space.
This marks LouCity's 20th returning player announced to date. Cruz and his staff continue to negotiate toward new contracts for other returners with updates to be provided in due time.
More information on the 2023 USL Championship campaign, such as the schedule, is expected after the new year. For now, season ticket memberships are on sale by visiting LouCity.com/tickets or calling (502) LOU-CITY during regular business hours.
