After opening the Western Hockey League playoffs this weekend, the Vancouver Giants now find themselves in a best-of-five series against the Chilliwack Bruins.
In Game 1 at the Pacific Coliseum on Friday, the Giants pulled out a 5-4 overtime win over the Bruins. The Giants, who trailed three times in the game, saw Spencer Machacek net a pair of goals while Jonathon Blum scored the overtime winner on a power play. Vancouver out-shot Chilliwack 44-10 on the night.
On Saturday in Game 2, the Giants dropped a 3-1 decision to the Bruins. Michal Repik had the lone goal for Vancouver as the Giants went 0-for-1 on the power play while the Bruins went 1-for-9. It was just the first Giants playoff loss in their last 14 WHL post-season games.
This opening round match-up now shifts to the Fraser Valley. Game 3 at Prospera Centre is Tuesday March 27 (7:00pm) while Game 4 goes Wednesday March 28 (7:00pm). Game 5 will be played at the Pacific Coliseum next Friday March 30 (7:30pm). Should a Game 6 be necessary, it would be played in Chilliwack on Saturday March 31 (7:00pm).
