San Jose Giants News Release

Three Inland Empire pitchers combined on a four-hitter Sunday afternoon to lead the 66ers to a 7-0 victory over the San Jose Giants at Arrowhead Credit Union Park. In the rubber game of the three-game series, Inland Empire jumped in front with six runs over the first three frames before cruising to the win. The Giants didn't record a hit over the final 6 2/3 innings as their record dropped to 19-12 this season.

Clayton Tanner (2-2) suffered the loss on the mound after surrendering six runs (five earned) on six hits over two-plus innings. Tanner allowed one run in the first inning, three runs in the second and two more without retiring a hitter in the bottom of the third.

In the first, Inland Empire's Bridger Hunt led off with a double before scoring two batters later on Eduardo Perez's ground out to third base. Carlos Santana started the second inning rally with a double and then advanced to third base when the next hitter, Drew Locke, grounded out. Matt Berezay followed with a triple to deep right center field plating Santana with the second run of the afternoon. Jaime Pedroza then lifted a fly ball to left center field that was dropped by Mike McBryde for an error to score Berezay. Pedroza later scored when Hunt connected for a two-out double.

Tanner's struggles continued in the bottom of the third inning when Josh Bell led off with a single before Perez drew a walk. Both runners advanced 90 feet on a wild pitch and then each scored when Santana smacked a double to push the 66ers lead to 6-0.

San Jose's best opportunity to score came in the top of the third inning when Matt Downs walked with one out before consecutive singles from Dom Duggan Pablo Sandoval loaded the bases. But Inland Empire starting pitcher Cody White induced the next hitter, Ryan Rohlinger, to bounce into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.

The Giants would not have another runner reach base safely until the top of the eighth inning when Downs drew a two-out walk. All total, 15 consecutive San Jose hitters were retired.

White (2-2) was credited with the victory after tossing five innings to begin the game. White surrendered four hits with one walk and two strikeouts. Relievers Paul Koss (3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 SO) and Jacobo Meque (1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 SO) preserved the shutout out of the 66ers bullpen.
