San Jose Giants News Release
The Visalia Oaks doubled up the San Jose Giants by an 8-4 score on Friday night in front of 1,408 fans at Municipal Stadium. The Oaks scored in six innings and led the entire game to take the series opener. For the Giants, Pat Dobson had a strong night offensively finishing 3-for-4 with a double and a triple.
Jesse Floyd suffered the loss on the mound for the Giants after allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits in 6 1/3 innings. Floyd walked three and struck out four as his season record fell to 7-4.
Trailing 3-0, the Giants struck for two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Consecutive triples from Dobson and Jake Wald plated the first run of the frame. Wald would score two batters later on an Eddy Martinez-Esteve single to left.
The Oaks though would answer with two runs of their own in the top of the seventh inning to push their lead up to 5-2. Visalia scored both runs on the benefit of just one hit (an infield single). The Oaks were able to capitalize on two walks and a San Jose error.
San Jose fought back with two more runs in the bottom of the seventh to bring the deficit back down to one. Three straight one-out singles from Brian Munhall, John Bowker, and Dobson loaded the bases. After Wald struck out, Nate Schierholtz delivered a clutch line drive single into center field to score Munhall and Bowker. But Eddy Martinez-Esteve would ground out leaving the tying run at second base to end the inning.
Visalia then took control of the game with two runs in the eighth and a single tally in the ninth against the Giants bullpen. Oaks relief pitcher Jean Machi retired the final six San Jose batters of the game to seal the victory.
In addition to Dobson, Schierholtz (2-for-4, 2 RBI) also had a multi-hit game at the plate.
