Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(Lancaster, CA) - Miguel Montero had three hits in his final game for the JetHawks as they downed the High Desert Mavericks 8-7 on Friday night at Clear Channel Stadium at Lancaster, CA. The win was the third in a row for the JetHawks and improved their record to 42-43 for the year.
After the game, it was announced by JetHawks Manager Bill Plummer that Montero would being joining the Tennessee Smokies of the AA-Southern League instead of returning to Lancaster following the All Star Futures Game that he will be playing in on Sunday in Detroit, MI.
It figured the ball would be flying at Clear Channel Stadium as the teams that have hit the most home runs this season combined to hit a total of seven home runs on the night.
Trailing 2-0 going to the bottom of the first, Stephen Drew changed that quickly when he hit a three-run home run to give the JetHawks a 3-2 lead after an inning. For Drew, it was his fifth home run in the last four games and his eighth of the year.
Chris Carter extended the lead to 5-2 with a two-run home run in the third inning. It was the 18th of the year for Carter, which moved him into a tie for fourth in the league this year.
In the bottom of the sixth, Danny Richar hit his second home run in as many nights to give the JetHawks a 7-3 lead. It was the eighth home run of the year for Richar, who hit only six with Lancaster a year ago.
Billy Butler hit his second home run of the game for High Desert in the top of the seventh. The three-run home run pulled the Mavericks back to within a run at 7-6.
Following Butler's home run, Sam Smith replaced JetHawks starter Jon Castellanos.
Adam Keim greeted Smith with a solo home run to left to tie the game at 7-7.
The JetHawks would regain the lead in the bottom of the inning. Montero opened the inning with a single, his third hit of the game. Two outs later, Jeff Cook dropped a single into right field to give the JetHawks an 8-7 lead.
The series with the Mavericks continues on Saturday night at Clear Channel Stadium. A.J. Shappi makes the start for the JetHawks and John Gragg III will get to the ball for High Desert in the 7:00 P.M. game. Great seats are available for the game at the Clear Channel Stadium ticket office, by calling the JetHawks at (661) 726-5400, or you can order them on-line on the team's official website www.jethawks.com.
