Joe Gerber, the Kings first baseman and top hitter in 2002, is moving up in the ranks of the San Diego Padres organization. Gerber first signed with the Padres this March and began the season with the Lake Elsinore Storm, their high A affiliate in California. He moves to the AA affiliate, the Mobile BayBears in Mobile, Alabama.
Gerber was hitting .278 with 11 homeruns and 56 RBI's for Lake Elsinore. For the Kings, he finished the 2002 season with a .322 average, 68 RBI's and led the league in homeruns with 19.
