Georgia Swarm Signs Coaches to Three-Year Contract Extensions
October 9, 2017 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Georgia Swarm News Release
The Georgia Swarm today announced three-year contract extensions for head coach Ed Comeau and assistant coaches Sean Ferris and Dan Ladouceur. The extensions will start in the 2018-19 season and keep the trio together with the Swarm through the 2020-2021 season.
Under Comeau and Co., the Swarm finished the 2017 regular season with the best record in the NLL (13-5), set a new record for most team goals in a season (266), and captured the franchise's first-ever East Division title. Georgia swept both the Toronto Rock and the Saskatchewan Rush in the postseason to win the franchise's first-ever Champion's Cup.
"We are happy to extend our contracts with the Swarm organization," Comeau said. "We have a great team and love our players. We truly believe in the statement 'Organizations win,' and we believe the Swarm have been building a top-notch organization where people feel valued and want to be part of the team. We look forward to continuing to grow as a group and hopefully more success with the Swarm."
In his two years with the Swarm, Comeau has a regular season record of 21-15 and a postseason record of 4-1, that one loss coming in 2016. His 2017 season was his 18th season in the NLL, the Champion's Cup his sixth (second as head coach), and his receiving of the Les Bartley Award his second.
Also in his second year with the organization, Ferris helped coach Georgia to become one of the top defensive units in the NLL. The Swarm defense finished in the top four in 2017 and featured the best penalty killing unit in the league, stopping 59.6 percent of all opponents' power-play opportunities.
Ladouceur's first year with Georgia saw him coach the offense to record-breaking levels, including setting a new record for most team goals in a season with 266 and a new record for most players to score 50 points or more in a season with seven players.
"We are excited to have our entire coaching staff back and on board for the next three years," Swarm Owner and General Manager John Arlotta said. "They have won championships at all levels, and were a huge part of the Swarm winning our first NLL Champion's Cup. Their leadership and knowledge over the next three years gives us the stability and expertise we felt we needed to build on our 2017 success and create a winning tradition in 2018 and beyond."
