Joliet Slammers News Release

(Joliet, IL) - The Joliet Slammers announced Monday the sale of LHP Geoff Brown's contract to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Brown will join former Slammers Daniel Carela and Amalio Diaz in the Dodgers' organization. He is headed to the Midwest League to play for the Great Lakes Loons.

"Geoff Brown came to camp primarily as a starter, however, Carmen (Pignatiello) saw him more as a left-handed specialist," Slammers manager Bart Zeller said. "Geoff deserves the opportunity because he accepted any role we gave him and he succeeded in them all. He definitely could get a K when we needed it and worked very hard for this chance. We wish him well in affiliated baseball."

Brown posted a 3.67 ERA in a league-leading 44 appearances. He tossed 41.2 innings, striking out 46 batters while only walking 21.

"I am very excited for this opportunity," Brown said. "I feel that my control and command really improved this season and I am looking forward to this new challenge."

The left-handed pitcher first made a splash as a junior at Jackson High School in Washington State. The 2006 Jackson team went 27-0, won the state 4A (the highest level in Washington HS baseball) title and finished as the No. 2-ranked team in Baseball America's final top-25 poll. Brown went 10-0 that season, posting a 0.98 earned run average with 78 strikeouts in 69 innings. In the state championship game at Safeco Field, Brown not only picked up the victory, he also hit a two-run home run. He was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 23rd round of the 2007 draft but opted to attend the University of Washington instead.

After four years at Washington, Brown signed with the Perth Heat of the Australian Baseball League. He was a big factor in the Heat's 2012 league championship as Brown recorded a 5-0 record with a 1.88 ERA in eight appearances, six starts. This season with the Slammers marked his first in professional baseball.

Brown joins LHP Aaron Dott (Yankees), Joliet native RHP Ryan Quigley (Padres), Darien native RHP Chris Pack (Diamondbacks), RHP Gaby Hernandez (Diamondbacks), RHP Daniel Carela (Dodgers) and RHP Amalio Diaz (Dodgers) as Slammers signed to affiliated baseball.

The Joliet Slammers are members of the Frontier League of Professional Baseball. The Frontier League is the oldest continuously operating independent professional league, in its 20th season in 2012. For more information about the Frontier League visit www.frontierleague.com.
