Las Vegas, NV, November 2, 2005 - The Las Vegas Gladiators, in partnership with News 3's "Operation: Football," awarded Geno Odong of Valley High School the Gladiators' Ironman Award for the tenth week of the 2005 high school football season.
Odong, a senior tailback, rushed for 113 yards and a touchdown in leading the Vikings to a 26-7 victory over Eldorado on Thursday night. Valley is 8-1 on the season and lines up next week against Basic in the first round of the playoffs. Odong is also a sprinter on the Valley track team.
Odong also excels off the field as he holds a 3.8 cumulative GPA.
This award recognizes student-athletes who have achieved both on the playing field and in the classroom. These achievements are reflective of the players in the AFL, where the majority of the athletes have skills as two-way performers.
Athletes are nominated for the award by their respective schools based on their weekly performance. Winners are recognized with a certificate presentation at their school with Gladiators' head coach Ron James and News 3 sports anchors Mitch Roberts or Rick Strasser. The presentation is featured on News 3 each week.
The Gladiators fourth season at the Thomas & Mack Center kicks off in 2006. Season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by calling the Gladiators office at 702-731-4977 or logging onto www.lvgladiators.com.
