Jackson Generals News Release
JACKSON, TENN. - The Generals (16-18, 47-56) won their fourth game in-a -ow and the fourth game of a series for the first time this season with an 8-3 win over Huntsville (16-19/62-43) Friday. Jackson's offense exploded for seven second inning runs and Cam Hobson (6-8, 3.53) had a solid performance out of the bullpen to ensure the big victory that vaulted the Generals ahead of the Stars into third place in the North Division.
The Generals went for their fourth straight win for the fourth time and finally got the elusive fourth straight win.
Jackson scored a run in the first or second inning in the 15th of their last 19th games as Dan Paolini (2x4, R, RBI) came up with an RBI single that scored Ketel Marte (3x5, 2 R, 2 RBI) to make the score 1-0.
Then the Generals bats broke out in the second frame. Leon Landry (1x4, R, RBI, BB) picked up a base hit that scored Mike Dowd (0x3, R, BB) and it was 2-0 Jackson as the single extended Landry's hitting streak to 16 games, just one shy of Pat Kivlehan's (1x3, 2 BB) team best streak this season.
Back-to-back doubles from Marte and D.J. Peterson (1x4, R, RBI, BB) plated three more runs and Jackson was on their way to a seven-run inning that saw the team hit four doubles and 11 batters come to the plate. The Generals ended up scoring seven runs on seven hits that included four doubles. The seven-run inning was also a 2014 season-high.
Huntsville did not go quietly as they added three straight singles to begin the third inning. With two outs Nick Ramirez picked up a base hit with the bases loaded that scored Yadiel Rivera and Nick Shaw. Hector Gimenez followed with another RBI knock and the Stars were back in it at 8-3.
From there, it was a bullpen game. Neither starter lasted more than three innings as they combined to allow all 11 runs that scored in the game. However, both bullpens were fantastic as Hobson earned the second bullpen victory in a row for Jackson as he went 4.0 scoreless innings, allowed just two hits and struck out five.
Starter Brent Suter (9-8, 4.49) took the loss for the Stars as he went just 1.2 innings and gave up all eight runs on eight hits, but Huntsville used four pitchers on get-away night out of their bullpen which combined for 6.1 scoreless innings.
Dowd was the only General who did not pick up a hit, but he did reach base on a walk to ensure all Jackson batters reached base safely.
The Generals travel to Mobile Saturday to open a five-game series with the BayBears. Matt Anderson (3-4, 4.96) will make the start for Jackson as Mobile will send Aaron Blair (1-0, 0.00) to the mound. The game will begin at 6:05 p.m. and can be heard on 96.5 ESPN, TuneIn Radio and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
