Oshawa Generals News Release

Two of the top teams in the CHL took the ice this afternoon in Sault Ste Marie. The Generals came out on top with a 6-4 win over the Greyhounds, who currently sit first in the West Division and second in the Western Conference. Today's game is the last time these two teams will meet in the regular season.

It was a physical first period with nine penalties in the first 20 minutes. Both teams managed to get on the scoreboard in the first but it was the Greyhounds who took the first lead. Gabe Guertler scored his 20th goal assisted by Boris Katchouk and David Miller, which gave Katchouk his first OHL point. The Generals and the Greyhounds both had two power play opportunities in the first 20 but no goals came from the man advantages. At 13:43, Tobias Lindberg and Mitchel Vande Sompel had a solid two-on-one drive to the net and it was Lindberg who found the back of the net. Bradley Latour also picked up an assist on Lindberg's 16th goal of the season. The game continued to get physical but remained tied at one after the first. The Generals outshot the Greyhounds 14-3.

The Generals came out in the second with all kinds of energy. Oshawa had a one-man advantage entering the period after Guertler was called for slashing at the end of the first. However, it was not until the next Generals power play when they found the net. After Bryan Moore went off for interference, the Generals caught the Greyhounds on a line change and Michael Dal Colle put the puck past Raaymakers. Assists went to Cole Cassels and Kenny Appleby. Less than two minutes later, Mac Hollowell was called for cross-checking and Dal Colle grabbed his second goal of the day, with assists credited to Cassels and Lindberg.

Only three minutes later, Hunter Smith and Lindberg made a drive to the net and Lindberg snagged his second goal and third point of the game to put the Generals up 4-1. The momentum didn't stop there either; Chris Carlisle got his fifth goal of the season with a shot from the point. Latour and Cirelli assisted Carlisle's goal, which made it 5-1. Kyle Jenkins of the Greyhounds fired back with a goal on Appleby and made it a 5-2 game at the end of the second. After 40 minutes, the Generals had more shots on net at 27-9.

The third period was quieter for both teams. Only 1:11 into the third, Cirelli received a two-minute penalty for goaltender interference but the Greyhounds couldn't capitalize. Hunter Smith and Keigan Goetz got into it and were both sent to the box for two for unsportsmanlike conduct. At 7:40, David Miller cut the Generals lead to 5-3 but Cassels came back with a goal assisted by Smith. The Greyhounds went to their fourth power play with Mermis sitting for interference. In the last few minutes of play, Dal Colle received two minutes for slashing and McCarron got two for unsportsmanlike conduct, which put the Greyhounds on a five on three. Moore found the net and made it a 6-4 game, but time ran out and the Generals took the win! Cassels and Lindberg both had a three-point game and Smith, Latour and Dal Colle had a two-point game.

The Generals play again on the road this Friday against the Kingston Frontenacs and again on Saturday against the Peterborough Petes. They'll be back on home ice on Sunday Jan. 11 to take on the Mississauga Steelheads at 6:05 p.m. To purchase tickets, click here, visit the GM Centre Box Office, or call 1-877-436-8811.
