Generals Weekly Report

January 20, 2010 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Flint Generals News Release

This third week of January 2010 is quite light for the Generals, having only one contest this weekend as opposed to the usual three. Their lone game is this Friday in a rare home game during the month of January, their opponent? None other than the Bloomington PrairieThunder, the team they battled Sunday. Given the happenings of their meeting this past Sunday (a line brawl in the third period), Friday's contest has the potential to be quite a thriller.

Although the Gens only have one game this week, next week's play starts early for the Gens with their match against Muskegon. The Lumberjacks skate into Perani Monday for the rescheduled game from back in November when the game was called before it began due to poor ice conditions.

Looking Back: The week of January 11th was not exactly what the Generals had expected or necessarily happy with. Going into this past weekend, the Gens were held scoreless for three consecutive games, a streak they had hoped to snap. Friday was their first opportunity to get on the scoreboard, but unfortunately Tim Haun and the Komets had other plans; and in a game where the Gens had countless chances and could have easily won the Gens come up empty handed, pushing their scoreless drought to five games.

Saturday Flint headed to Moline, IL to face the Mallards, one of the hottest teams in the IHL as of late. The G-Men came out strong and 10:46 into play, defenseman Jake Pence found the back of the net, ended the team's time without a goal at 261:17 minutes. Between the goal from Pence and the two goals from defenseman Chris Bogas, defense accounted for 3 of the Generals 6 goals and 7 of 17 points on the way to a big 6-4 win over the Mallards.

Sunday the Men in Blue headed Bloomington to take on the 5th place PrairieThunder. The game got away from the Generals in the second period, heading into the third down 4-1. Less than three minutes into the final frame following a hit on Tony Tuzzolino, aggressions from an incident in the second period were let out and resulted in a line brawl that lasted a couple of minutes and ended in 29 penalties being dished out between the two teams and with the PT skating away with the 6-2 win.

The Invasion Continues: This Thursday, the Generals continue their school quest when they head to Atherton Middle School. A handful of players will be talk to the students about the athletics and academics, how the two work together and the importance of staying in school. The players will also discuss following your dreams, giving back to the community, dealing with the pressures of being an athlete, and continuing your schooling even when you begin to realize your dreams.

Listen In: Listen to 103.9 the FOX Tuesday, January 26th from 4pm-5pm when Generals defenseman Jake Pence joins radio personality Ed Combs for a weekly update on the team and some general banter. Jake's weekly show will return to its usual Monday time slot February 1st.

Facebook Fridays: The countdown to the first "Facebook Friday" is on, with just two days remaining! The picture needed to receive your "Facebook Friday" tickets is currently posted on the Flint Generals Group page on Facebook. Every Monday of a week that the Gens have a home Friday game, a picture will be posted on the Flint Generals Group page that fans can print off and bring to the Perani Arena Ticket Office and receive up to 3 (three) $5 tickets in the end zone for that Friday's game.
