
Icehawks Move Into First Place Tie With Win In Dayton

DAYTON, OH - The Port Huron Icehawks moved back into a first place tie with the Muskegon Lumberjacks on Wednesday night with a 4-1 victory on the road in Dayton. Larry Sterling made 34 saves and Port Huron's special teams scored two shorthanded goals and a power play goal in the win.
The Icehawks improve to 8-1-0-0 in the season series with the Gems and 26-9-0-3 overall. The fifth place Gems fall to 16-19-3-1.
Sterling lost a shutout bid late in the third period when the Gems Tim Hartung scored on a power play at 16:19. Corey Couturier and Mike Vaskivuo assisted the goal. Port Huron's Adam Maccarone restored a three goal lead when he scored his second goal of the season into an empty net at 19:33. The unassisted goal was the second shorthanded goal of the game for Port Huron. Shots were 16-10 for Dayton in the third.
The Icehawks opened a three goal lead in the second period with goals just 59 seconds apart. Derek Patrosso scored unassisted and shorthanded at 15:49 for his 19th goal of the season. Less than a minute later Mickael Bedard scored on a power play. His 23rd goal of the season was assisted by Pete Rouleau and Patrosso. Shots in the second period favored Port Huron 18-11.
Tab Lardner opened the scoring in the first period cashing in on a breakaway at 16:11. Daniel Tetrault and Mike Gershon assisted the goal, the 12th of the year for Lardner. Shots were tied 8-8 in the first. For the game Port Huron outshot Dayton 36-35. Sterling made 34 saves while Derek MacIntyre stopped 32 shots for Dayton.
