Flint Generals News Release

FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals had a successful seventh week of IHL hockey, winning two of their three games. The biggest bump of the week came Wednesday evening with Muskegon in town when fans left Perani early because was cancelled due to issues with the ice. The 2-1-0-0 week seven record ended the eleventh calendar month on a good note for the Gens, and gives them something to build on in December.

Thursday the Gens headed to Fort Wayne for a Thanksgiving event with the Komets. They played well at both ends of the ice, and after falling into a three goal deficit before the end of the middle frame they proved they have the will power to fight back pulling within one early in the third thanks to Jamie Schaafsma. The Komets regained a two goal lead but the Generals refused to go away quietly pulling within one for a second time. They had a lot of chances to push the game to overtime but Tim Haun held on giving the Komets a 5-4 win.

Friday saw the sixth contest in Dayton between the Generals and the Gems. The Generals came out with a lot of intensity, putting up a 2-0 lead with by the half-way mark of the opening session. Brandon Gentile opened the scoring with a power play goal at 4:42. November's Rookie of the Month John Mori followed suit with power play goal of his own at 10:32. Rookie Goaltender of the Week Rob Nolan was again strong in net for the Gens. The win was the first for the Generals against the Gems who won each of the previous five meetings.

Sunday's game against Muskegon proved to be as big of a test of will as expected for the G-Men. The Lumberjacks came out firing on all cylinders, scoring three goals on started JF Labbe in just over eight minutes of play in a span of 3:14. Coach Jason Muzzatti put in Rob Nolan who stopped all 32 shots faced, allowing the Gens to come from behind and push the game to overtime. The extra five minutes still was not enough forcing a shootout, an area in which the Gens have struggled. The 'Jacks struck first but Schaafsma and captain Pascal Rheaume came up with big scores, giving the Gens their second straight win (a feat that had yet been accomplished by the Flint squad).

Thursday, December 3rd the Generals fans have the opportunity to celebrate with the team in honoring the Generals' Player of the Month at a luncheon from 12:30-1:30 at Wizeguys Pizza on S. Saginaw in Flint. The four players who have received league recognition (Brandon Gentile, Rob Nolan, Steve Silver, and John Mori) will also be honored.

Bloomington and Flint have met only once before in this young season, with the PrairieThunder coming out on top 3-2. The night saw the special teams take center stage, with four of the five goals scored come while with the mad advantage. The Generals had a big third period getting power play goals from Jamie Schaafsma and Greg Bullock, but Craig Macdonald's pp goal which was sandwiched between the Gens goals, proved to be the difference maker. Since then, the PrairieThunder have gone 5-4-1-2 for an overall record of 9-6-1-2 and 21 points putting them at 4th place in the league. The Generals, who have had a tough start, acquired a 3-7-0-2 record since playing Bloomington (5-12-0-2 overall).
