Flint Generals News Release
FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals of the United Hockey League prepare for training camp on Monday, October 4, 2004 at 9:00 a.m. Some players are getting the early start and will be ready for the upcoming hockey season.
Left-Winger Jay Henderson is in camp with the Providence Bruins. The 26-year-old native of Edmonton, ALTA was a member of the 2004 Calder Cup Championship Team in Milwaukee last season. Henderson also enjoyed championships with the Providence Bruins (AHL) in 1999-2000 and the Houston Aeros (AHL) in 2002-2003.
Defenseman J.P.Morin is currently in camp with the American League's Rochester Americans. Morin was one of the steadiest defensemen in the United Hockey League last season with 1 goal, 16 assist for 17 points with the Flint Generals. He also led the team in plus/minus with +17. Morin prepares for his second season with the Generals and third overall in the U.H.L.
"The situation with Jay Henderson could be one in which he will make that squad with Providence. For selfish reasons, I guess you can say we hope to see him a Generals jersey soon," said Vice President & Head Coach, Robbie S. Nichols. "He is our property in the United Hockey League, but I know this seasoned vet will have an outstanding camp in the American Hockey League."
Nichols would welcome J.P.Morin back as soon as possible. "Unless he has a great camp and gets a second look with Rochester....and he is more than capable of doing that," continued Nichols. "J.P. has the talent to play at the next level and that all players want that chance to do so. We wish the best for our players in American League camps. If they are sent back to the UHL, we hope they will bring the best of their experiences to the Generals. It will certainly make us a stronger, character club that winners are made of."
The Flint Generals take the ice hosting three exhibition games on Thursday, October 7, 2004 against the Port Huron Beacons at 7:05 p.m. The Generals host the Jr. Generals in a benefit exhibition on Friday, October 8, 2004 at 7:35 p.m. The Beacons return for the final exhibition contest on Saturday, October 9, 2004 at 7:35 p.m. All games to be held at Perani Arena. The regular season home opener is Friday, October 15, 2004 versus the Muskegon Fury at 7:35 p.m.
