
Generals Split Double-Header with Braves

Jackson Generals News Release
JACKSON, TENN. - The Generals split a double-header with the Missisippi Braves at Pringles Park Tuesday, dropping game one 4-2 and walking off with the victory in game two, 4-3. The game two win snapped a short 3-game losing skid. With 19 games remaining, the Generals are 2 games back of first place Chattanooga.
Game 1: Braves 4, Generals 2
In game one, the Braves jumped out to a quick 4-0, scoring 2 runs in the third and 2 runs in the fourth. The Generals committed four errors in the two inning span, setting a season high.
The Generals added a run in the sixth inning on a RBI groundout from Joe Dunigan and a run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Denny Almonte.
Starter James Paxton (7-4) allowed 4 unearned runs on 5 hits in 6.0 innings of work, walking 2 and striking out 4 in the process.
Rich Poythress led Jackson offensively with a 2-for-3 game at the dish.
Game 2: Generals 4, Braves 3
Again the Generals fell behind in game two as M-Braves leadoff hitter Todd Cunningham blasted a 2-run homer to left in the top of the third.
The Generals loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the third and picked up a bases loaded walk from Rich Poythress to cut the lead in half.
Johermyn Chavez blasted his second homer of the week in the bottom of the fourth, tying the game at 2-2. It was Chavez' 6th homer of the season.
Jackson took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI single from Jesus Sucre that scored Chih-Hsien Chiang.
In the top of the seventh, Generals reliever Logan Bawcom (2-0) walked the bases loaded and threw a wild pitch that scored Alden Carrithers from third, tying the game at 3-3.
During the bottom of the seventh, Chaing delivered a one out RBI single off the centerfield wall that scored Stefen Romero from second, giving Jackson their 5th walkoff win of the season, 4-3.
Game two starter, Anthony Fernandez did not factor in the decision, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits in 5.0 innings of work. Yoervis Medina pitched a scoreless sixth inning, striking out the side. Bawcom earned the win.
Chiang, Johermyn Chavez and Brad Miller recorded two-hit games in the second game Tuesday.
The Generals will begin a 16 games in 15 days stretch on Tuesday night, opening a homestand against the Missisippi Braves with a double-header Game one will begin at 5:05 p.m. LHP James Paxton (7-3, 3.31) will make the game one start for the Generals while LHP Anthony Fernandez (4-1, 2.61) will start game two. The game will only be available on NewsTalk 101.5 FM, jacksongeneralsbaseball.com and the Generals TuneIn Radio Station.
