
Generals score three in sixth to defeat Smokies, 3-0

JACKSON, TENN. -Taijuan Walker allowed six hits and struck out five batters in six scoreless innings to send Jackson to a 3-0 victory over the Tennessee Smokies (10-13) at Pringles Park. Moises Hernandez, Bobby LaFromboise, and Carter Capps combined with Walker to pitch the third shutout for the Generals (16-7) on the season. The win extends Jackson's winning streak to five games and helps maintain a four-game lead in the North Division.
The Generals got on the board in the sixth inning thanks to a line drive double by Joe Dunigan that scored Gabriel Noriega from second base.
Rich Poythress drove in Dunigan on a single to right field. Denny Almonte extended his hitting streak to nine games on a single to right field. The hit drove in Poythress and extended the Jackson lead to 3-0. Poythress was 2-for-3 with a run scored and RBI.
The Generals close their five-game series with the Smokies on Saturday night at Pringles Park, with first pitch set for 6:05 p.m. The Generals will send RHP Brandon Maurer (2-0, 2.25) to the mound against RHP Dallas Beeler (0-0, 2.42) for Tennessee. Friday will be Star Wars Night at Pringles Park with appearances from Star Wars characters, a Star Wars jersey auction, and a post-game Hi-Tech Special Effects Star Wars fireworks show. Other festivities include Madison County Relay for Life Night and Sarge's Reading Program Night.
