Generals Make Series of Roster Moves

JACKSON, TENN. (AUGUST 7, 2012) - The Seattle Mariners and Jackson Generals announce the following roster move. LHP Steve Garrison has been activated from AAA Tacoma and RHPJonathan Arias has been activated from the DL. To make room, RHP Matt Fox was released from his minor league contract and RHP Moises Hernandez was placed on the 7-Day DL. The moves are made less than an hour from tonight's series finale with the Tennessee Smokies.

GARRISON, 25, was 1-4, with a 5.86 ERA in 7 starts for AAA Tacoma. Garrison was 5-3, with a 3.95 ERA in 12 games, 10 starts this season with the Generals before moving to Tacoma on July 1. In his last 3 Jackson starts, Garrison was 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA (4 ER, 20.0 IP) while walking 2 and striking out 12.

ARIAS, 24, was placed on the 7-day DL July 30, with right forearm soreness. Arias is 1-3, with a 4.86 ERA in 13 relief appearances for the Generals. Combined between Jackson and A+ High Desert this season he is 5-6, with a 5.33 ERA in 37 relief appearances and 7 saves. Arias was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Marines in 2006 out of Bani, Dominican Republic.

HERNANDEZ, 28, has been placed on the disabled list. Moises was 4-2, with a 6.80 ERA in 29 relief appearances this season for the Generals.

FOX, 29, made 2 starts for the Generals going 0-1, with a 5.63 ERA. He began the season in the Triple-A Tacoma rotation, he made 3 starts for the Rainiers, going 0-3, with a 5.11 ERA. Fox was placed on the disabled list on April 26 with a sore right shoulder. Fox has made 3 rehab starts for the AZL Mariners, going 0-0, with a 1.50 ERA, striking out 5 and walking none. Fox was signed by the Mariners this past offseason after spending time in the Minnesota and Boston organizations. He pitched the entire 2011 season at Triple-A Pawtucket in his second year as a player in the Red Sox organization and led the International League, holding opponents to a .230 batting average. Fox saw his first Major League action in September in 3 appearances (1 start) with the Twins and Red Sox.

Fox spent the bulk of the 2010 season with AAA Rochester, appearing in 35 games (21 GS). He was selected from Rochester on Sept. 3 and made his Major League debut that night in a start against Texas, recording the no-decision allowing 4 hits and 2 runs in 5.2 innings. He was designated for assignment on Sept. 5 and claimed by Boston on Sept. 9. Late in the 2010 season, he made 3 relief appearances for the Red Sox (0-0, 10.80).
