Mobile BayBears News Release

The Mobile BayBears squandered a two run lead, falling 4-3 to the Birmingham Barons Monday night at Regions Park. The Barons rallied from a 3-1 deficit entering the seventh inning, scoring one run in the final three innings and winning on a walk-off base hit from Kenny Williams with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning. With the loss, Mobile fell to 57-57 on the season, the first time the BayBears have not been at least one game above .500 this season.

Birmingham led 1-0, scoring in the bottom half of the first inning on a RBI double from Carlos Sanchez that scored Jose Martinez. Mobile tied the score and took a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning after a sacrifice fly from Ryan Strieby allowed Matt Davidson to score from third base and David Nick plated Brent Clevlen with a RBI single. Nick added another RBI single in the sixth inning to give Mobile a 3-1 lead.

BayBears RHP Chase Anderson did not factor in the decision despite holding the Barons to just one run on five hits in 5.2 innings. The Barons cut the BayBears lead to one in the seventh inning, when Justin Greene scored on a RBI double from Williams. Birmingham tied the game in the eighth inning after Andy Wilkins hit an RBI double to score Sanchez, tying the game at 3-3.

The BayBears and Barons conclude the five game series Tuesday, August 7, at 7:05 PM.
