JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- The Jacksonville Suns (58-57/25-20) completed a five-game sweep of the Biscuits (60-53/24-21), taking sole-possession of first place with a 4-0 rain-shortened-win Tuesday night at the Baseball Grounds.

Jacksonville starter, Jose Alvarez (5-6), was dominant from the first pitch, facing only two over the minimum through eight shutout innings. The Venezuelan left-hander only allowed two hits while striking out five for his fifth win of the season.

The Suns broke a scoreless-tie with an RBI-single from Paul Gran in the second inning. With the bases loaded in the same frame, Donnie Webb walked to bring in the second run of the inning. Chris Gutierrez ripped a two-run double to complete a four-run second for Jacksonville.

The Biscuit trailed 4-0 in the middle of the eighth inning when officials were forced to call the players off the field due to heavy rainfall. With no end in sight to the storm and after a 40 minute delay, the game was officially ruled complete, capping off a five-game sweep for the Suns.

Nick Barnese (2-1) went six innings and was tagged with his first loss of the season. He allowed four runs on only four hits but walked five and hit three batters. Shane Dyer was solid in his scoreless inning of relief work.

The Biscuits entered the series with a four-game lead in the standings over the Suns. With the five-game sweep, Jacksonville now sits one game ahead of Montgomery for first place in the South Division.

The Biscuits will open up a five-game series with the Jackson Generals Wednesday night at Riverwalk. RHP Merrill Kelly will make the start for Montgomery. Jackson will send LHP Anthony Fernandez to the hill. First pitch is slated for 7:05.
