Flint Generals News Release
FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals are on the road tonight in Port Huron to take on the IceHawks at 7:00 PM (EST) but return home to Perani Arena this Friday, December 18th as the IceHawks come to town to complete the two game home and home series. The game on the 18th kicks off the holiday season and to mark the occasion, the Generals will be teaming up with the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve and participating in the Toys for Tots Program.
The mission of the of the Toys for Tots Program which began in 1947 is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community. The hope is to help those children experience the joys of the holiday season, contributing to a better community, and delivering a message of hope to less fortunate youth that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.
According to the official website, Marines have distributed more than 400 million toys to more than 188 million needy children over the 62 years of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program.
December 18th also marks the second "Pre-Holiday Shopping Night." New and returning vendors will be selling their products around the concourse before and throughout the game. If your business is interested in participating in the event, call the Generals' Office at 810-744-0222 by this Thursday between 9am and 5pm.
Holiday celebrations continue Sunday, Dec. 20th with the fan favorite Teddy Bear Toss. The Toss is a popular promotion throughout minor and junior hockey arenas where fans are encouraged to bring Teddy Bears to the game and toss them onto the ice when the home team scores their first goal. The bears are collected and donated to hospitals and charities.
The Generals are teaming up with Carriage Town Ministries and kicking off a Food Drive Tuesday, December 22nd that will run through January 3rd. Carriage Town Ministries, a local organization founded in 1950, has been serving those in need with safe shelter, warm meals, vital counseling, clothing and sharing of faith to those searching for direction and healing in their lives.
Tickets for all three games are on sale at the Perani Ticket Office, by phone at 810-744-0580, or through Ticketmaster. For group ticket information, call the Generals' Office at 810-744-0222 from 9am-5pm Monday-Friday or visit our website at www.flintgenerals.com.
