Flint Generals News Release
FLINT, MI - After a drubbing 24 hours ago, the Flint Generals posted another emotional and gut-check win - this time beating the Muskegon Fury 4-1 at Perani Arena and Event Center on Sunday night.
The Generals win coupled by the Kalamazoo Wings 5-4 shootout loss to the Bloomington Prairie Thunder put them to within one win of clinching a playoff spot. Flint can secure a Turner Cup playoff birth on Wednesday night with a win in Kalamazoo.
Flint played an emotional and inspiring game right from the opening whistle controlling the play from start to finish. Chad Alban made his first start on home ice since early December and was solid turning aside 28 of 29 shots.
In the opening period, the Generals killed off a 5 on 3 penalty that kept the game scoreless.
The Generals raced out to a 2-0 lead early in the middle stanza. Michel Beausoleil scored the game's first goal on a wrist shot from just inside the blue line. John DiPace netted the second marker when he received a great pass from Josef Fojtik. Greg Bullock also earned an assist on the goal.
Late in the period Fojtik scored a goal himself when his finished off a breakaway and made a great move on goaltender Clayton Pool.
Muskegon would score early in the third period to make it 3-1, but the Generals would answer that one back when Jordan Fox deflected home a shot on the power play from Nick Tuzzolino and Michel Beausoleil.
The Flint Generals visit the Wings on Wednesday at 7 pm at Wings Stadium. Fans can tune into the game on Unforgettable 1470 WFNT and www.flintgenerals.com beginning with pre game show coverage at 6;40 pm. Denis J. Puska has the call at 7 pm.
Hockey is back next weekend at Perani Arena and Event Center as the Flint Generals play their final two home games of the regular season. On both Friday and Saturday the Fort Wayne Komets will be the visitors at 7:30 pm.
On Saturday, the UAW Warm Up Jerseys will be auctioned off immediately after the game with 100 per cent of the proceeds to benefit the Arthritis Foundation.
