
Generals Crush Ice With 65-33 Win Over Colorado

EL PASO, TX. : The El Paso Generals defeated the Colorado Ice back on Saturday, June 13 by the score of 65-33. The win moved the Generals to 8-2 overall this season and the win certified the Generals of a playoff spot in the IFL 2009 post-season. El Paso dominated the first half scoring 23 unanswered points but the Generals began everything with a bumpy start as QB Tommy Jones was intercepted by DB Donnie Craft Jr. The El Paso defense quickly countered by recovering a Cantre Maurice fumble at the El Paso 14-yard line. El Paso drove down the field but had to settle for a 31-yard field goal from kicker Trey Crum.
In the second quarter, the Generals offense broke things wide open as Tommy Jones hooked up with WR DeAngelo Woodie for a 37-yard touchdown reception. Following a stop on defense, the Generals capped off another scoring drive with a six-yard touchdown pass from Jones to Lemans Casimier. El Paso added one more touchdown to extend their lead at 23-0 when Jermaine Blakely punched in a one yard touchdown run. The Generals led at halftime 23-0.
The El Paso Generals defense got out to a fast start in the third quarter when Ice WR Josh Gibson fumbled the ball from the Ice 23-yard line. Generals DB Melvin Screen recovered the loose ball and returned it back for a touchdown extending El Paso's lead to 30-0. Colorado attempted to make it a game as the Ice registered 33 points in the second half but the Colorado defense could not contain the El Paso high-powered offense.
El Paso ended up scoring 28 points in the fourth quarter as they once again held on to win the ball game, 65-33. Generals QB Tommy Jones finished going 22 of 37 for 278 yards passing and four touchdowns. Lemans Casimier led the Generals receiving core with eight receptions for 98 yards including two touchdown receptions. The Generals defense had one of their best performances of the season by recovering a fumble for a touchdown and returning an interception for a score.
The El Paso Generals have guaranteed themselves a spot in the â09 IFL playoffs, and they will look to capture the Lone Star Division championship and a first-round bye in the coming weeks. The Generals remain on the road for another week as they travel to St. Louis, MO to face the River City Rage on Saturday, June 20.
