Flint Generals News Release

FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals snapped a four game winless streak on Thursday night with a 6-5 overtime win over the Muskegon Lumberjacks at Perani Arena and Event Center. Matt Elich scored the game winning goal with 20 seconds remaining in overtime as he tipped home a shot from Martin Ondrej who rushed the puck up the ice on the final play.

It was a game that got away from the Generals as they yielded a 5-2 lead midway through the third period when the Lumberjacks netted three goals inside of seven minutes.

The two teams will meet again tomorrow (Friday) night at 7 pm at LC Walker Arena where Muskegon has yet to drop a game at home.

The Muskegon Lumberjacks raced out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by Luc Stauffacher. The Generals tallied back to back goals less than three minutes apart. First John DiPace was left alone at the side of the net for the easy tap in from Matt Elich and Steve Rymsha. Elich then gave the Generals the lead when he scored on great breakway when he went upstairs on goaltender Bill Zaniboni. There were no penalties called in the first period.

New faces to the line-up Jan Jas and Jason McCrimmon made their presense felt in the opening period. Jas was on a line with Josef Fojtik and Justin DePretis. McCrimmon played with John Kozoriz and Justin Styffe.

Greg Bullock, (upper body injury), Nick Bet, on injured reserve, Mike Alexiou (effects of concusion), Jared Dumba all missed tonight's game.

In the second period, the Generals took a two goal advantage when Steve Rymsha followed up a loose rebound and scored from John DiPace and Ryan Jorde. However, the Lumberjacks netted a power play goal to cut the deficit to one goal at 3-2.

The Generals controlled the early moments of the third period when John DiPace scored his second of the game from Steve Rymsha at 37 seconds. Less than a minute later Justin DePretis tallied a goal from Jan Jas and it was quickly 5-2.

However, that lead would evaporate in a matter of seven minutes as the Lumberjacks would tie the game with three goals.

Both teams had chances to score in the early moments of a fast paced overtime but couldn't get one until Elich ended the contest.

The Lumberjacks outshot the Generals 35-34 and there were two penalties called the entire game with Muskegon owning the lone two power plays.
