Generals Add 12 To Training Camp

FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals, proud members of the IHL, would like to announce the late additions of 12 players to the Training Camp roster, including 3 players from the team's affiliate, the Madison IceMuskies of the AAHL.

Kaspars Astashenko, 5th Round 1999 Tampa Bay Lightening Draft Pick, is an experienced defenseman with 23 games of NHL experience under his belt. He has played in the AHL and the old IHL, including two stints with the Detroit Vipers. Kaspars also has many years of experience outside of North America, including 5 seasons in Russia and most recently in Italy, playing two seasons (2007-08 and 2008-09) with the Ritten Renon.

Tony Tuzzolino, center from New York, has had a long and successful career. He played four seasons with the Michigan State Spartans from 1993-94 through 1996-97. He has tremendous international experience playing six of the last 8 years in Italy. This will be Tuzzolino's second stretch with Flint, having played 14 games for the Generals during the 2006-07 season. Tony also competed in the 2006 Olympics in Torino, Italy.

Rob Nolan is a rookie goalie from Sherwood Park, Alberta. In his young career Nolan has played for the Camrose Kodiaks, Fort McMurray Oil Barons, Sherwood Park Crusaders of the AJHL from the 2002-03 season through 2004-05 season. In 2005, Rob began a four year career with the Michigan Tech Huskies where he went 15-55-10 in 80 games.

Bryan Hince, a Kapuskasing, ONT native, is another rookie goalie for the Generals. He competed for the Plattsburgh Cardinals, a Division II state college, of the NCAA during the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons. Competing in 53 games for the Cardinals, Hince tallied a 44-7-2 record.

Kevin Galerno is a left winger from Ayer, ONT. He competed for the University of Alabama- Huntsville of the NCAA from 2005-06 through 2007-08. Appearing in 76 games for the Chargers, Kevin scored 6 goals, 10 assists and 28 PIMs. Galerno spent the 2008-09 season playing for the Eindehoven Kemphanen of the Dutch League, scoring 36 goals, 35 assists and racking up 66 PIMs in 39 games.

Jeff Diehl is rookie forward with toughness from Jennison, MI. Jeff played the 2004-05 season with the Central Texas Marshals of the NAHL. The following season he played 51 games with the Helena Bighorns and 5 games with the Traverse City North Stars, two teams also of the NAHL. The 2006-07 season was spent with the University of Massachusetts- Boston followed by two seasons with Northland College.

Ondrej Martinka is a 22 year old defenseman that has played his entire career in Czech. From 2001-02 through 2006-07 Ondrej competed in the Extraliga U18 and U20 League, spending 5 of those seasons with HC Litvinov. His 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons were spent with Dukla Jihlava of 1.liga.

Tomas Janak is a forward who spent the 2008-09 season playing in the French league for CPH Dijon. Prior to his time in France, Janak competed for four seasons in the English Premier League.

Lucas Schott is an energy rookie forward from Erin, Ontario. From the 2001-02 season through 2004-05, Lucas played in the OPJHL also playing a few games for the Mississauga IceDogs and Barrie Colts of the OHL. Schott played the next four seasons with The College at Brockport Golden Eagles before signing with the Generals for the 2009-10 season.

Nick Niedert is a goalie from Hudson, Iowa. Over the past eight seasons, Nick has played in the NAHL, CEHL, SPHL, MAHL and EPHL. His best season was 2007-08 with the Indiana Ice Miners where in 25 games he posted a 24-1 record with a 2.51 GAA and .928 Pct. Niedert's second best season came last year with the Jersey Rockhoppers of the EPHL where in 42 games he posted a 25-15-2 record, 3.80 GAA and .905 Pct. and led his team to the league championship.

Eli King is a young Canadian forward. Eli spent the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons playing for the Bonnyville Pontiacs of the AJHL. Last season, King played 23 games with the Lindsay Muskies followed by 16 games with the Ajax Attack, both of the OJHL. While with the Attack King scored 1 goal, 5 assists and had 10 penalty minutes.

Hank Levin is a forward who has spent the past four years playing for Western New England. During his time with the Golden Bears, Levin scored 21 goals and 30 assists in 90 games.

Niedert, King and Levin are all currently signed by the Generals affiliate, the Madison Ice Muskies.
