Gems shoot down Icehawks

Tonight at Hara Arena the Gems took on the 2nd place Port Huron Icehawks. In the 1st period the Gems were on the loose. Dayton rookie Jon Ornelas with the help of Preston Briggs and Pierce Norton started the scoring and only 19 seconds later Joe VanCulin hit the net with the aid of Corey Couturier and Matt Auffrey. Then it was the newest Gem, Mike Olynyk's turn, he scored with assists from Briggs and Justin McCutcheon during a Dayton power play. Port Huron got on the board with only 2 1/2 minutes to go. The 2nd period was a defensive back and forth battle with no points added to the talley from either side. A few moments past the 4 minute mark the Icehawks put their 2nd point on the board. The Gems would finish the scoring 2:15 left on the clock. Gems 4 - Port Huron Icehawks 2. The Gems record is now 19 -23 - 3 - 1.

Tell all your friends WONE 980's Mark Schlemmer will be broadcasting before the game on Friday, February 26th. Fans of Mark's can head to the Hara pub at 3pm and stay for the 7:30pm game when the Gems take on their old rivals the Fort Wayne Komets. It's Frothy Friday so it's a night with bargin $2 drafts. Be sure to ask for seating in the WONE Schlemmer section.

That evening is also trading card night. The 1st 1000 fans will receive the 2nd of 4 sets of official Gems Trading Cards sponsored by Color Q of Miamisburg. Join the Gems for an evening noone will want to miss.

The Gems hit the road again this Wednesday for the long ride to Quad City to take on the Mallards. Listen live on the Gems website: www.daytongems.com on the B2 network as Tom Michaels calls the play by play.

On Friday, February 12th start your engines its Auto Racing night when the Gems meet Muskegon at 730pm. Chat with representatives from Shady Bowl and Eldora. All race fans are welcome. It's also Frothy Friday with $2 Drafts.

Valentines Day will be the day to bring your sweetheart to Hara for the game against Quad City at 5pm. The first 1st 700 ladies will receive carnations courtesy of Furst Florist. After the game join the Gems on the ice for a chance to Skate with the Team.

All adult tickets only $10. Student and Childrens tickets $7. Groups are welcome and parking is free.

Each Monday evening join the Gems at Fox and Hound in Beavercreek at 9pm as they become Miami Valley Idol judges .
