Gems fall to Komets

The Gems traveled to Fort Wayne's Allen County War Memorial Arena to play the 1st of back to back - home to home series against the Komets. Fort Wayne started the evenings scoring just before the halfway mark of the the opening period. Less than a minute later the Komets were given a penalty shot that found the goal. In the 2nd with only 4:22 played in the period the Gem's Pierce Norton scored with assists from Mike Vaskivuo and goalie, Derek MacIntyre. Before the end of the period the Komets would score on a power play and then less than 4 minutes later put the puck in again ending the 2nd with the Komets ahead 4 - 1. As the 3rd period began the Komets scored 3 times in the first 2 minutes. Dayton battled and only 2:23 later Jon Ornelas would get to the goal with the aid of Vaskivuo. Dayton's Matt Smyth would score with less than 2 minutes left helped by Tim Hartung and Corey Couturier on a power play. Then with 17 seconds left in the game Smythe would add the final goal of the evening unassisted. The game would end with the Komets 7 - Gems 4.

Tomorrow at Hara the Gems face the Fort Wayne Komets again for a 730pm face off . Immediately following the game, an auction will be held where you can bid on your favorite players' away jersey. The team will autograph the jerseys and they will be available for pick up after the final game on April 16th.

As the inaugural season draws to a close there are still Gems games and events to attend. The team is already looking forward to next season. On April 16th join the Gems as they play the final game of their inaugural season. It will be Fan Appreciation night at Hara Arena. The team will play the Muskegon Lumberjacks and the first 1000 fans will receive the final set of trading cards. Puck drops at 7:30pm. It's Frothy Friday so it's a night with bargain $2 drafts.
