Gems Denied By Komets 4-2

The Gems traveled to Allen County War Memorial in Fort Wayne tonight to take on the Komets. Gems rookie Mike Vaskivuo began the scoring 12:34 minutes into the 1st period with assists from Corey Couturier and Jon Ornelas. Less than 4 minutes later Dayton's Mike Olynyk sent the puck in with the help of Pierce Norton and Mike Szypura. The Komets would roar into the 2nd on a power play score with only 20 seconds on the clock. They would continue control the period with another goal 8 minutes later tying the score at 2 - 2. The Gems held their own until the last minutes of the game. With only 1:10 left in the game Fort Wayne scored then with 17 seconds left the Komets found the empty net to end the evening 4 - 2. The Gems record is now 21 - 32 - 3 - 1.

On March 6th at Hara Arena the Dayton Gems take on the Quad City Mallards at 730p. This evening the Gems welcome all area Youth Hockey Groups. Youth Hockey teams, friends and families will be invited to bring groups and enjoy and evening of professional hockey. Fund raising programs are available.

That evening is also National Heritage Academies Night - The Gems welcome students, teachers, staff and families of: The Emerson Academy of Dayton, The North Dayton School of Discovery and Pathway School of Discovery. The North Dayton School of Discovery Performance Chorus under the direction of Dr. Quntin Jordan will be performing the National Anthem.

Wednesday, March 10th at 7pm when the Gems meet the Flint Generals at Hara Arena it's another exciting evening of hockey and $1 beers. The Gems City Roller Girls will be in attendance to offer information about their season and introduce themselves to the Gems fans.
