Dayton Gems News Release
Dayton, Ohio - The Dayton Gems, members of the Central Hockey League, announced that they have withdrawn plans to salute Steve Bartman during the team's lone home preseason matchup, and will be instead making a donation to Diabetes Dayton in Steve's honor.
Announced late last week, "Salute to Steve Bartman Night", the Gems planned preseason promotion intended to raise awareness for affordable family entertainment, had spread quickly across the Internet, ultimately garnering national media attention. Ultimately, and made in the best interest of Mr. Bartman, and in keeping with the original intent, the team has withdrawn the promotion, effective immediately.
Elaborating further on the change, Dayton Gems team president Joe Greene noted "It was not our intention to cause any undue burden upon Mr. Bartman while attempting to raise awareness of the importance of providing a family friendly atmosphere in the world of professional sports"
In addition to the promotion change, the Gems have pledged to support Mr. Bartman's well-known charity work with juvenile diabetes by making a monetary contribution to local non-profit organization Diabetes Dayton in Mr. Bartman's name when the team hosts its first annual Gems Charity Golf Tournament benefiting Diabetes Dayton this Saturday afternoon.
The Gems will play host to the Fort Wayne Komets in the team's only home preseason game on Cassano's Italian Ice at Hara Arena on Friday, October 14 at 7pm. Fans can purchase general admission tickets to the preseason game for only $10 for adults and $8 for kids 12 and under by calling the Gems at 275-7777 or visiting www.DaytonGems.com .
The Dayton Gems opening night is set for Saturday, November 5 at 7pm. Single Game Tickets are on sale now at the Hara Arena box office and all Ticketmaster outlets. In addition, full season and mini pack ticket packages are still available starting at $27! Call the Gems at 275-7777 for more information and to order by phone.
