Gems Beat Sliders To End Sliders' Home Season

August 5, 2012 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Springfield Sliders News Release

The Springfield Sliders lost their final home game of the 2012 season today to the Quincy Gems 10-3 at Robin Roberts Stadium. After three scoreless innings to start the game, it was the Gems who broke the deadlock, scoring four runs in the fourth inning off of Sliders' starter Wade Rothermich. The Sliders would score their first runs in the bottom half of the frame, with 1B Matt Tellor launching his eighteenth home run of the year, and then RF Chase Hainline driving in another run with an RBI single, to cut the lead to 4-2. That is as close as the Sliders would get as Quincy tacked on four more runs in the fifth, to increase their lead to six. The final Sliders' run of the night came in the bottom of the sixth inning, when 3B David Kerian drove in Tellor, who had doubled, with a sacrifice fly. The Gems then scored two more runs in the top of the seventh inning, to finish out the scoring for tonight's game. With the win, the Quincy Gems take the season series over the Sliders 7-5. Tomorrow the Springfield Sliders will wrap up the 2012 season, as they take on the Dubois County Bombers. Game time is set for 7:15 ET at League Stadium in Huntingburg, IN.

The Springfield Sliders are members of the Prospect League, playing at historic Robin Roberts Stadium. The Sliders are members of the Western Division along with the Danville (IL) Dans, DuBois County (IN) Bombers, Hannibal (MO) Cavemen, Quincy (IL) Gems, and Terre Haute (IN) Rex.
