Dayton Gems News Release

Dayton, OH -The Dayton Gems professional hockey team, a proud member of the Central Hockey League, officially announced the acquisition of defenseman Matt Baxter in a trade with the Tulsa Oilers.

Baxter, a 23 year old native of Courtice, Ontario, comes to the Gems in exchange for future considerations with the Oilers. His previous professional experience includes a handful of games with the ECHL's Reading Royals at the tail end of last season, after finishing a four year career at the University of Alabama-Huntsville where he mustered 22 points in his senior campaign.

"Matt is a good young defenseman who has great size and the ability to move the puck well" said Gems head coach Brian Gratz. "He should blend nicely with the rest of the team and help out our blue line."

The 6'3" defenseman is expected to be in the lineup this Friday when the Gems host the Evansville IceMen on Cassano's Italian Ice at Hara Arena at 7pm.

Tickets for Friday and Saturday's home games against the IceMen are available now by calling the Gems ticket office at 275-7777 or visiting www.DaytonGems.com .
