Kansas City, KS - The Flyers (8-20) put offense and pitching together to beat the T-Bones (17-12), 4-1, at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on Saturday night.

Ryan Gehring (1-2) struck out eight and allowed just five hits on his way to picking up a win in his first start of the season. The lefty only had to throw 90 pitches to get through the top lineup in the Northern League.

Gehring retired the first ten Kansas City hitters to begin the game before giving up a liner to Jake Blackwood off the left field wall. But the second baseman got greedy and was gunned down by Joey Gomes trying to advance to second.

Schaumburg's bats did their part, starting in the top of the third. Brandon Newton led off with a hard hit single followed by a Travis Brown walk, his fourteenth of the season to lead the team. Gomes then laced a double into left to plate Newton and Brown to open the scoring.

After leaving the bases loaded in the sixth, the Flyers came back out with a purpose in the top of the seventh. Brown sent the first pitch deep into the Schaumburg bullpen in left center field for his first home run of the year. Gomes singled and Richard Mercado cleaned up the bases, sending a liner into right center, scoring Gomes and putting the Flyers up 4-0.

The T-Bones got one in the eighth, but Joshua Giles tossed a scoreless ninth to pick up his second save of the season.

The Flyers and T-Bones play the rubber match at CommunityAmerica Ballpark tomorrow night.

First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 PM. Join Alex Perlman on 1410 WRMN and flyersbaseball.com for all the action as the Flyers take on the T-Bones. The Schaumburg Flyers Pregame Show gets rolling at 4:50 PM with the game to follow.
