Mississippi Braves News Release
PEARL, MS -- Atlanta Braves RHP Gavin Floyd is scheduled to continue his Major League Rehab assignment with the Mississippi Braves. Floyd will start the M-Braves series finale against the Huntsville Stars at Trustmark Park Friday at 7:00 PM.
Floyd, 31, made five starts (0-4, 5.18) with the Chicago White Sox last season before undergoing season-ending "Tommy John" surgery on May 7, 2013. He signed as a free agent with the Atlanta Braves on December 16, 2013.
Floyd made three rehab starts with Triple-A Gwinnett, going 0-1 with a 4.00 ERA. He gave up five runs, four earned runs, on eight hits, a homer and five walks. Floyd struck out five batters in nine innings of work.
The 2013 season marked Floyd's 10th season in the Major Leagues. He spent seven seasons with the Chicago White Sox and three seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies prior to signing with the Atlanta Braves. Floyd posted five consecutive seasons with double-digit wins (2008-12), and in 63 total career games in which he's pitched at least 7.0 innings, Floyd is 39-12 with a 1.78 ERA.
The right-hander was originally selected by the Phillies in the first round of the 2001 draft. He made his major league debut on September 3, 2004, with the Phillies. Floyd was acquired by the White Sox along with LHP Gio Gonzalez in exchange for RHP Freddy Garcia on December 6, 2006.
The gates to Trustmark Park open at 6:00 PM Friday. Former Atlanta Brave Dale Murphy will make an appearance-throwing out the first pitch and signing autographs for fans during the game. Friday also features Friday Night Fireworks, Cowboy Maloney's Flat Screen Friday and the Game Trailer all sponsored by Yogi on the Lake in Pelahatchie.
The Mississippi Braves is the Double-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. Since making the move from Greenville, SC, in 2005, over 80 M-Braves have gone on to play in the big leagues. The M-Braves have made postseason play three times and went on to win the Southern League Championship in 2008. Tickets are on sale now.
