
Gators sign two veterans

Lafayette, LA â Louisiana IceGators Head Coach and Vice President of Hockey Operations Todd Gordon today announced the signings of veteran forwards John Evangelista and Wes Mason to contracts for the 2004-05 ECHL season.
The 29 year-old Evangelista should be no stranger to IceGators fans, having played his last five seasons for the arch-rival Mississippi Sea Wolves. During his time in Mississippi, Evangelista played in 252 games, tallying 40 goals, 74 assists for 114 points. The gritty 5'9" forward tallied 306 penalty minutes and earned a reputation as one of the fiercest competitors in the ECHL.
"John Evangelista is a solid veteran player who works hard every day at practice and during the game," said Gordon. "He brings leadership, leads be example and is one of the best penalty killers in the ECHL."
Wes Mason was a 2nd round pick of the New Jersey Devils in 1996, the 38th player taken in the NHL entry draft. The 26 year-old forward has played at all levels of minor league hockey including the AHL, IHL and ECHL. Mason has played in 371 games scoring 123 goals, 136 assists for 259 career points. Last season, Mason split time between Toledo and Pensacola, scoring 19 goals to go along with 102 PIMS. At 6'2" 205 pounds, the native of Windsor, Ontario will play a power forward role for the Gators.
"Mason is a quality person, who I believe will be a point a game player for the IceGators, " said Gordon. "Wes is a real agitator on the ice and get under his opponents' skin. IceGator fans will like this guy a lot."
