Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

Gary, Ind.- The Gary SouthShore RailCats added pitcher John Boker and outfielder Cristrian Guerrero to the roster, just a day after resigning two key pieces from last year's championship team Tanner Townsend and Steve Haake.

Guerrero, who is cousin to All-Star Major Leaguer Vladimir Guerrero, is entering his 11th year of professional baseball. The 27 year-old was originally signed as a nondrafted free agent by the Milwaukee Brewers in 1997.

Last season, Guerrero spent time in the Washington Nationals organization before being released and joining Camden of the Atlantic League. In 43 games for the Riversharks, he hit .290 with seven homers and 23 runs driven in.

The 6-5 outfielder has hit .268 and has 98 homeruns 928 career games.

While Guerrero will supply some much needed offense to the lineup, Boker gives the RailCats another experienced arm. Due to arm injuries, Boker, 33, has not played professional baseball since 2006, when he started 19 games between Brockton (Can-Am League) and Lancaster (Atlantic League).

Boker posted a 7-3 record for Brockton with a 4.98 ERA, but finished the season in Lancaster going 2-0 with a 3.10 ERA. The Mount Vernon Nazarene University product was originally drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in 19th round of the 1996 amateur draft, but spent all of 1997 and 1998 on the disabled list before being released in 1999.

The RailCats begin defense of their 2007 Northern League title on May 15th when they host Joliet in the 2008 season opener. Call (219) 882-2255 for ticket information.
