Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes weren't able to add to their home stand full of come-backs, as the Bakersfield Blaze held on for a 6-5 win over Rancho, avoiding a four-game sweep on Thursday night at LoanMart Field.

Kyle Garlick fell a double shy of the cycle, but was left at third base to end the game, as Blaze reliever Issac Sanchez struck out Julian Leon to end Bakersfield's three-game losing streak, which also halts Rancho's three-game winning streak.

Quakes' starter Yaisel Sierra struggled for a second straight start, allowing six runs on eight hits over five innings.

After Rancho took advantage of three errors in the first inning to take a quick 1-0 lead, the Blaze got two off Sierra in the second, as Justin Seager and Arby Fields each drove a run to give Bakersfield a 2-1 lead.

The Quakes would rally to tie the game in the last of the second, as Erick Mejia reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Joey Curletta to even the gamea at 2-2.

Bakersfield scored two more in the third and two in the fourth though, taking a 6-2 lead against Sierra (0-1).

Garlick smashed his team-leading seventh homer of the year to right field in the fifth, a two-run shot to make it 6-4. Garlick struck again in the seventh, as he tripled and scored on a Matt Beaty single, making it 6-5.

Blaze starter Tyler Herb (3-0) was removed after seven innings, giving way to Sanchez in the eighth. Sanchez worked around a two-out single by Mike Ahmed in the eighth and a one-out single by Garlick in the ninth to record his first save of the year.

The Quakes (19-9) will head to High Desert (19-9) to battle the other top team in the South Division on Friday night in Adelanto. Tommy Bergjans (2-2) will take on Mavs' right-hander Cole Wiper in the series-opener at 6:35pm.

The Quakes will return to LoanMart Field on Tuesday, May 10th, taking on the Lancaster JetHawks in a three-game series. Tuesday is another Healthy RC Recycle Tuesday, as fans that bring ten CRV-eligible bottles or cans to the ticket office will receive a free Club Seat Ticket to the game. Tickets are available at (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com.
