Alejandro Garcia notches two hits as the 66ers bookend series with wins

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - Trent Thornton pitched six solid innings, but the Inland Empire 66ers led from wire-to-wire and knocked off the JetHawks, 4-1 on Thursday night at San Manuel Stadium to earn a split of the four-game series.

Inland Empire (7-21) jumped ahead in the opening inning with a pair of runs off Lancaster (10-15) starter Trent Thornton. Tim Arakawa led off with a single, Caleb Adams drove him in with an RBI double, and Taylor Ward delivered an RBI ground out after a passed ball. After Arakawa and Adams reached, Thornton retired the next six 66ers.

The 66ers added a run in the third inning on an RBI double by leadoff batter Tim Arakawa, who finished 6-for-14 in the series.

The JetHawks got on the board with their lone run in the fourth. Garrett Stubbs dumped a one-out single into left to get the rally started. Ramon Laureano followed with a double to the gap in left-center to bring home Stubbs, but Laureano was thrown out trying to stretch it to a triple. Nick Tanielu followed with a double, but was left stranded on second base.

Thornton (1-1) suffered the loss for the JetHawks. He went six innings and allowed six hits, four runs (three earned), walked two, and struck out five. Andrew Walter was strong in two innings out of the Lancaster bullpen, striking out a pair.

The JetHawks finished 3-4 on their road trip. Nick Tanielu was the team's best hitter on the trip, hitting .384.

The JetHawks return home tomorrow night to open a three-game series against the Visalia Rawhide at The Hangar. Brock Dykxhoorn (1-0) will start for Lancaster against Brad Keller (1-1). First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
