Garcia Named AFL Offensive Player Of The Month

Fourteen-year veteran QB Aaron Garcia was named AFL Offensive Player of the Month for the month of April on Thursday.
Garcia's consistent dominance in the past four games has spurred the Dragons' four game win streak and led the team to an undefeated April. It was the first time the Dragons went 4-0 in a month since 1999, when they did so as the Iowa Barnstormers.
In April, Garcia completed 101 of 148 passes for 1,142 yards and 29 touchdowns with just two interceptions. He was named Offensive Player of the Game in Weeks 6, 7 and 8, powering the offense to 62.0 points per game in April. More importantly, he helped the Dragons to four straight wins, boosting their record to 5-4 and moving New York into the middle of the playoff hunt.
Garcia also hit a few personal milestones in April. He became just the fourth player in AFL history to throw for over 39,000 yards in his career. Garcia currently has 39,483 yards and 840 touchdowns, just 14 behind Chicago Rush QB Sherdrick Bonner for third all-time. In seven games this season, Garcia has completed 153 of 239 passes for 1,630 yards and 38 touchdowns with just four interceptions. He's thrown for at least 1,000 yards in 13 of his 14 AFL seasons.
Other monthly honorees include New Orleans Voodoo DB Norman LeJeune, Tampa Bay Storm FB/LB Torrance Marshall and San Jose Sabercats K A.J. Haglund, who received ADT Defensive Player and Rookie, Ironman and Kicker of the Month, respectively.
Garcia and the Dragons will look to keep the win streak going when they travel to the west coast to take on the Los Angeles Avengers (3-6) in Week 11. The teams last met on April 23, 2006, when the Dragons won that match-up 70-61.
