MAINEiacs/JUNIOR GAME DAY PRIMER

Knotted at One

Tonight is game three of the best-of-seven second round series between the Lewiston MAINEiacs and Montreal Junior. Over the weekend, the two teams split a pair of games at Verdun Auditorium, with Montreal winning the opener 6-5 in overtime on Friday, before Lewiston responded with a 6-2 win in game two on Saturday. The next two games of the series will take place at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

He's Got the Power

It has only been two games, but Lewiston's Olivier Dame-Malka is already having a series to remember. On Saturday afternoon, the 20-year old defenseman lit the lamp four times, while also adding an assist for a five-point performance. Dame-Malka now has five goals and two assists in the series, with five of those seven points coming on the power play.

Six-for-Six

Montreal's Philippe Lefebvre hasn't missed a beat this spring, as he is playing in his third career postseason in the QMJHL. After posting eight points during the 2009 playoffs and six points during the 2010 playoffs (both with Drummondville), Lefebvre has begun this postseason on a six-game point streak, totaling seven points in the process.

Shooting Galleries

Both of the first two games in this series have featured a plethora of shots on goal, giving the two goaltenders heavy workloads. After combining for 84 shots on goal in game one, the MAINEiacs and Junior combined for 68 shots on goal in game two. Nicholas Champion and Jean-Francois Berube have done their best, stopping 113 of those attempts.

First Time Foes

This series marks the first time that Lewiston and Montreal are meeting in the playoffs. Since the Junior moved to Montreal, they have played eleven regular season games against the MAINEiacs, coming out on top in nine of those contests. Prior to the move, Lewiston had their say, winning 13 of 22 games against the St. John's Fog Devils.

Quick Work

The MAINEiacs and Junior are playing their second round series after both clubs played relatively short series in the opening round of the playoffs. After falling in game one, Lewiston picked up four straight wins, eliminating the Moncton Wildcats for their first series win since 2007. Meanwhile, Montreal swept the Halifax Mooseheads, earning their second series win in three years.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL

The other three series in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League will also experience changes in venues tonight, giving two teams an opportunity to turn things around at home, while giving one team a chance to take a shocking series lead. Shawinigan and Gatineau lost the first two games of their series in Quebec and Drummondville respectively, while Victoriaville managed to split a pair of games in Saint John. The series between the Sea Dogs and Tigres is the only one of the four that will follow a 2-3-2 format.
