SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Silver Knights will kick off its third Major Indoor Soccer League season on Friday, when it will take on expansion club Pennsylvania Roar at 7:05 p.m. EST at Santander Arena.
Friday's match will be broadcast live on YouTube on the Roar's official page. Pennsylvania's coverage will begin at 7:05 p.m. EST in the primetime showdown to kick off the season. The game will be available shortly after its completion as on-demand content.
The Syracuse Silver Knights enter 2013 looking to jump into the postseason picture. The Orange, Silver, and-Black missed out on the playoffs in 2012 by three games with an 8-18 record. Still, the Salt City club did earn honors. Neto was selected to the First-Team All-MISL, while Captain Nelson Santana picked up a spot on the Second-Team All-MISL.
The Knights will open the MISL season against the Roar, who are in their inaugural campaign as indoor soccer returns to Pennsylvania. The Keystone State was home to the Philadelphia KiXX until 2010, producing two indoor titles in the squad's 15-year run.
In the off season, the Roar signed ex-KiXX star and four-time indoor Goalkeeper of the Year Peter Pappas out of retirement. The veteran remained close to the game during his break, broadcasting with the Philadelphia Union.
"They'll be a young team, but we need to play our game," Head Coach Tommy Tanner explained.
If Syracuse can find the back of the net, it may be through the efforts of its new attack. Former Baltimore Blast forward Machel Millwood joins a squad that returns the league's runner up in two-point goals, Neto. Millwood led the Blast in points with 59, and expects to do more of the same in the Salt City. Add in Nelson Santana's 21 assists in last year's effort, and the Knights could pose a threat.
"We've just got to stay focused on this game and not look ahead to next week," Tanner said. "It all starts here."
The Orange, Silver, and-Black will open its home schedule against New York rivals, the Rochester Lancers on November 22nd at the Oncenter War Memorial Arena at 7:30PM.
