The Saginaw Spirit took Game 1 of the opening round on March 28th, winning by a score of 6-4. Josh Bloom opened things up, scoring the first goal of the night just 52 seconds into the first period. Cedrick Guindon soon tied the game up at one but another goal from Josh Bloom gave Saginaw the 2-1 lead heading into the second period. Two Owen Sound goals from Declan Waddick and Deni Goure gave the Attack their first lead of the night, but Rodwin Dionicio and Michael Misa earned Saginaw back the lead. Hunter Haight scored twice in the third period, one into an empty net, to seal the deal for the Spirit. Konnor Smith scored a last-second goal for Owen Sound to end the game, 6-4. Attack rookie netminder Carter George stopped 40 of 45 shots on goal, while Andrew Oke stopped 24 of 27 for his first career playoff victory.

Players to Watch:

Zayne Parekh had a stellar regular season, finishing with a team leading 63 assists (fifth in the OHL) and 96 points (first among OHL defensemen). He continued his scoring pace in Game 1 on Saturday night, finishing with three assists for Third Star honors. Owen Beck's three-assist night in Game 1 means he has points in 21-straight contests (13G-24A-37P). Josh Bloom, who also extended a point streak to 13 games, has been instrumental on Saginaw's top line alongside Beck and Alex Christopoulos. Between the trio, they boast 48 career playoff games.

Deni Goure led the Owen Sound Attack with 36 goals and 60 assists for 96 points during the regular season, a mark that was sixth-best in the Ontario Hockey League. He scored what was a go-ahead goal in the second period of Game 1 for his first of the playoffs. The 40-goal scorer Colby Barlow picked up an assist in Game 1 and is one of the Attack's more seasoned playoff veterans with 10 points (8G, 2A) in 12 games. Rookie goaltender Carter George made 45 saves in his first OHL playoff game and looks to be a major factor in Game 2. Nobody had more shutouts than George in the regular season (four), and his .907 SV% was second-best in the league.
