Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

San Antonio (20-12, 69-33) @ Corpus Christi (15-17, 40-62)

Fans who were here last night witnessed a really good game through seven innings. The eighth inning ruined all that, unless of course you were a fan of the Missions. San Antonio scored six runs in the top of the eighth to pull away from the Hooks for a 12-6 triumph. Pinch hitter Bryan Altman provided the key hit - a two-run single to left-center that plated Jaff Decker and Sawyer Carroll for an 8-6 Missions lead. The hit was just the 12th this season for Altman in a Missions' uniform and only his third against a team other than Midland.

The result marked the 13th time this half that the Hooks have scored six or more runs in a game. Right fielder Jacob Goebbert paced the offense with a 3-for-4 night that included a triple and three RBIs.

A victory tonight would give the Hooks their first series win over San Antonio since August 3-5 last year, when the Hooks took two of three from the Missions here at Whataburger Field.

Tonight's Matchup:

LHP Juan Oramas (6-2, 2.72) vs. RHP Ross Seaton (4-7, 5.68)

Oramas, signed by the Padres as a non-drafted free agent in November of 2006, makes his 13th appearance and 12th start for the Missions. Last Friday at Midland, the southpaw gave up more than three runs for the first time in a San Antonio uniform. He allowed four runs on eight hits and a pair of walks over six innings in a 5-1 loss. Oramas had been 6-0 with a 2.22 ERA through his first 10 outings with the Missions, and since has lost his last two starts, both at Midland, while posting a 4.91 ERA (6 ER in 11.0 IP). At the plate, Oramas is 2-for-7 with a double, 1 walk and 1 RBI.

· Has allowed just 1 HR in 59.2 IP (solo HR by Tommy Field at Tulsa July 5)

· Made one start for AAA Tucson June 13 at Reno (3.2-7-7-6-1-4, 3 HRs)

· Was on loan to the Diablos Rojos of the Mexican League in 2009 (9-1, 2.31, 25 games, 14 starts)

Seaton, a third-round selection of the Astros in the 2008 draft out of Second Baptist High School in Houston, makes his 21st start and his third against the Missions. Last Saturday at Frisco, Seaton was charged with seven runs, only three earned, on nine hits over 5.1 innings in a 9-5 loss. Engle Beltre's two-out, three-run double in the bottom of the third was the pivotal hit in the game. Since winning his first two starts this half, Seaton is 0-2 in his last four starts with a 5.95 ERA. In his two starts this year against San Antonio, Seaton is 0-2 with an 11.00 ERA. Seaton is Corpus Christi's best hitting pitcher, 4-for-11 this year with 1 HR, 1 walk, 1 sacrifice fly and 5 RBIs.

· Selected as the Texas League's Pitcher of the Week (July 11-17)

· Has not given up a HR in his last 2 starts after allowing 9 HRs in his previous 8 starts

· Was Lancaster's pitcher of the month last July, going 2-1 with a 4.67 ERA

Missions pinch Hooks

Altman's tie-breaking, pinch-hit, two-run single in the eighth last night was Altman's first pinch hit (now 1-for-9) and San Antonio's first pinch hit since June 21. The Missions went 0-for-12 between pinch hits.

That last pinch hit for San Antonio on June 21 was an 8th-inning double by Daniel Robertson off Shane Wolf of the Hooks here at Whataburger Field. Before that, San Antonio's previous pinch hit was a Cody Decker single in the 6th inning of a game between the Missions and the --- wait for it --- Hooks, May 7 at Wolff Municipal Stadium. Seems to be a pattern. The hit came off David Berner.

The Missions are now 8-for-48 (.167) in pinch-hitting situations this season.

Can't hold 'em

Last night's game reveals another telling stat this season. The Hooks led 6-5 last night entering the seventh inning. That's the 44th time this year the Hooks have entered the seventh with a lead. Corpus Christi's record in those 44 games is 34-10. Only one other team in the Texas League has lost as many as seven games when leading after six innings - the Springfield Cardinals, who are 40-7 when leading after six.

The other six league members have lost either four or five times when leading after six. The other teams and their records this year when leading after six: San Antonio (50-4), Northwest Arkansas (41-4), Frisco (38-4), Arkansas

(41-5), Tulsa (37-5) and Midland (30-5).

Going the ‚¬Ëœextra' mile

Two doubles and one triple last night give the Hooks at least one extra-base hit in 40 consecutive games. The last time the Hooks failed to collect at least one extra-base hit in a game was June 13 at San Antonio when the Hooks managed six singles in a 4-0 loss to the Missions.

In the first half of the season, the Hooks averaged 2.49 extra-base hits per game. Here in the second half, with 47 doubles, 9 triples and 44 HRs in 32 games, the Hooks are averaging 3.13 extra-base hits per game.

Most notable is Corpus Christi's home run production. Here in the second half, the Hooks have hit 44 HRs in 32 games, exceeding their long-ball production of the first half (42 HRs in 70 games). The Hooks have hit 15 HRs over the last 10 games.
