San Antonio FC News Release

At a glance...

Be a Goldfish: SAFC and San Diego meet just a week and a half after the two sides split points in a 3-3 draw at Toyota Field on June 3. SAFC scored the first three goals within the first 15 minutes, before Tani Oluwaseyi was sent off to leave the squad down a man. Last season, SAFC fell 0-3 at San Diego in the team's first-ever visit to Torero Stadium.

Tani Time:Forward Tani Oluiwaseyi has started strong in his first five matches with SAFC. In his debut, he scored the winner at Vegas, then in his first start he bagged a hat trick with two assists. Oluwaseyi's five goals are leading the team, and tied for the 10th-most in the league in just 310 minutes played. Oluwaseyi is back after missing Saturday's match due to a red card received on June 3 against San Diego.

Full Team Effort: San Antonio's 25 goals are the second most in the league, trailing first-place Sacramento by just one goal. The attack has been a group effort, with 11 different players having scored, and 13 different players that have assisted for SAFC this season.

What they had to say:

Head Coach Alen Marcina

(On preparing for the short turnaround...)

"Now our focus is on recovery. Get the guys back in. Make sure physically they're ready, make sure mentally they're ready and we will prepare like we do every other game. It's just a little bit shorter week, but we have the benefit of playing them recently. So we are going to be well prepared and we're gonna go and put our best foot forward and hopefully, earn three points in San Diego."

Defender Mitchell Taintor

(On remaining focused going into the SD Loyal match...)

"I mean, soccer is an emotional game, you see tempers flare, and you see it all over the world. We need to be really strong mentally going into this game it's going to be really tough physically, mentally, emotionally. So we're gonna see what we're made of and it's gonna be really good game. Two really good teams and I think one point separates us, so it's a big match, but I have no doubt that we'll be ready mentally, physically and you know, ready to go."
